Kelly has a trim and fit build but isn't athletic driven, keeping in shape to meet the requirements of the Fleet and to keep the doctor away. Her ever-present smile makes her appear young and vibrant and coupled with her fair skin and striking looks the last thing one expects her to be is an avid research scientist. Kelly is rarely seen out of uniform but only because she usually has no reason to be; though whether in uniform or out, she always makes an attempt to appear neat.

Personality:

Kelly is one of those happy people. She has a serious side but it is rarely seen, firmly of the opinion that a person is what they choose to be and Kelly has chosen that state of being as one of happiness. Her true love has always been science and her keen intellect has proven useful in the pursuit of her dream. She was no genius but scored high marks in school regardless. Most poeple find Kelly a friendly and dependable person and willing to help out if she can. Her punctuality lacks at times as she gets involved in a project she can't tear herself away from, but overall has always done her duty. She has had a few relationships in the past, though when the men ran into the wall of her scientific pursuit, they simply chose to leave her rather than compete. While there are times she is wistful over this fact, she has never let it get her down for long.

Background

Kelly was born to Damon and Sophia Tarant July 10th, 2357 on Mars Colony. The Tarant's owned a huge terraformed farm complex that allowed her and her older sister Margaret to live a comfortable life. Even as a little girl all Kelly wanted to do was live in museums and on the planetary network science archives. She read and saw everything she could and her room was filled with science kits, microscopes and even a tri-corder she got for Christmas. The only other thing she could be bothered with was watching her Uncle race skimmers back on Earth. She was able to travel there and stay during the summers which were at the track and and more museums than her family thought healthy for her. It was truly the time of her life and even in school she belonged to any and all science clubs. In Junior High and High School she became involved in a Vulcan sponsored program for enhanced youth learning which actually ended up pointing her in the direction of joining Starfleet's Science program to further her exposure.

Her graduation present before she joined was a trip to Vulcan, where she spent two months as an intern at one of the University's. It was a humbling and exhilarating experience that cemented her career path in life. By the end of the time there, she was bursting with ideas and exhuberance. The future was limitless and it was all she could do to contain herself while progressing through the Officer program at the Academy, having tested into it and been given recommendations, including one from her Vulcan Professor she had been attached to.

Upon graduation, Kelly was assigned to the USS Copernicus, an older research vessel but one she had requested as she would be a bigger fish in a smaller pond. It turned out to be a wise choice for it gave her a fast track towards her eventual position as Chief of Science aboard the Lancelot, a very prestigous honor for the young Lieutenant. Over the years Kelly has always managed to maintain in contact with her family and visit them over the holidays, even watching her Uncle race on occasion when leave time could be managed. Kelly has also managed to remain an active member in the civilian scientific circles with her side research projects and has many friends scattered throughout the quadrant as a result. She has been cited in a few discoveries mostly in the physics field, though has never discovered anything on her own. having achieved her dream of getting where she was, Kelly now refocused her ambitions on having her name written in history books.
